The Ventilation Room is a one-woman, disabled-led publishing project that currently creates plain-language financial education resources for disabled recipients of public benefit programs and the people who support them.
I'm a disabled, certified benefits counselor (WIP-C™, Youth-C™, Vet-C™) who started this project because I know firsthand what it feels like to be told that needing public benefits means you can't get ahead economically. Once I learned the truth, I made it my mission to share it. Through years of collaboration with leading organizations in the disability and economic empowerment space, I've helped countless disabled peers unlearn that same belief. This publication is an extension of that effort.
How to Work on SSI: The 101 Guide is the first of many publications I hope to create that will make disability benefits information genuinely accessible. Not just technically simplified, but actually written for real people, in plain language, with love.
Your support keeps this work free, accessible, and in the hands of the people who need it most. 🤎
